Children's Home and School – shaping the future

The Children's Home and school are housed in nine buildings. The buildings were constructed in 1999/2000 and 2006/2007 thanks to donations. The home was opened in 2002 with 45 children living in three houses. Now, approximately 200 children aged 5-19 live there.

In addition to the 200 boarding students, about 70 additional students from the surrounding villages are provided an education up until their 10th year of school. At the moment, 45 children in two classes are being supported at local colleges.

After 3 years of kindergarten and 10 years of school, the children receive a School Leaving Certificate (SLC). This enables them to attend vocational training or a college. Highly gifted children are supported until they graduate from university.

The project was started by Marlies Kornfeld from Bern, Switzerland, who has been helping the underprivileged for over 30 years. She first began her work by aiding Tibetan refugees, and since 1999 she has been supporting development assistance in Nepal.
