Bright Horizon Children’s Home – Children’s aide on the Roof of the World

The Bright Horizon Children's Home (BHCH) is located near the idyllic village of Matatirtha – “Mother Earth” – outside Kathmandu. Around 180 children between the ages of 5 and 19 find a safe home there: most of the children are orphans or half-orphans and come from very poor backgrounds. Many come from geographically disadvantaged regions of Nepal. At the children's home, they live together with their caregivers in an almost family-like environment and receive a good education. In addition, around 70 children from the surrounding area are taught as day pupils in the internal school. Around 45 children (two year groups) are looked after at the college.

The German association Children's Bright Horizon e.V.

BHCH 21The German association Children's Bright Horizon e.V. was founded in 2002 on the initiative of Ronald Gerns and Dr. Gabriele Dilla-Gerns. Out of gratitude for the adoption of a Nepalese baby in 2001, they wanted to help children in need in Nepal. They came across Bright Horizon Children's Home and were completely convinced by it.

The BHCH is financed by sponsorships, private and institutional donations and project contributions from foundations. The aim is for one sponsorship to cover the living and education costs of a child. Further donations enable the expansion and maintenance of the facility as well as extraordinary purchases and projects. The board members of the association all work on a voluntary basis. Sponsorship fees, membership fees and donations are tax-deductible in Germany.

Activities

There are many members and sponsors in our association who provide support. One particular example is Gabi Wutschke and Volker Meyer, who travel to Nepal every year to give the children and staff at BHCH an eye examination and, if necessary, provide them with glasses at their own expense. Under the motto follow.me.to.nepal, they organize a wide variety of fundraising activities and draw attention to the BHCH on Instagram and Facebook.
